“Tiger Is Strolling Around” is a 2021 Ukrainian animated short film directed by Anastasiia Falileieva. The 13-minute stop-motion piece delves into themes of teenage depression and emotional isolation. It was produced by Studio Plastic Bag and Studio KAPI with support from the Ukrainian State Film Agency.
Set in a haunting, deserted Japanese town, the story follows Katsumi, a high school student overwhelmed by despair. As she decides ending her life, a magical tiger appears, guiding her through a surreal journey into her memories. This helps her rediscover reasons to value her existence and confront the emotional distance with her best friend, Mitsuo.
The film is done with stop-motion technique, utilizing used materials like cardboard and plastics to craft its puppets and sets.This choice enhances the film's raw and intimate atmosphere, reflecting the protagonist's internal struggles: from a pile of garbage to a gem.
