“Patron the Dog” is a Ukrainian animated series directed by Anastasiia Falileieva and launched in January 2023, inspired by the real-life bomb-sniffing Jack Russell Terrier named Patron. The series aims to educate children about safety during war, particularly focusing on dangers like land mines. It also provides a comforting distraction during challenging times.
The show features Patron alongside his cat friend, Tom, as they navigate various adventures, teaching viewers about bravery, resilience, and the importance of safety. Produced with support from USAID and in partnership with UNICEF, the series is available on YouTube with subtitles in multiple languages, including English and Polish.
Beyond the super successful animated series, Patron has become a cultural icon in Ukraine. His popularity has led to the creation of merchandise, including children’s books and plush toys, allowing fans to engage further with his story.
